OpenID – the why and how

OpenID logo

For those of you who don’t have an OpenID account I suggest you create one now. I believe by the end of 2007 OpenID will be huge on the lines of digital signatures. OpenID will be included in almost all future web applications and used by some of the big companies such as Google and Digg. I don’t see nothing stopping OpenID unless a Google type company comes up with something even better, but Google seems to adapt to the online community we’re I could see Microsoft trying to come up with something new to compete OpenID and fail.

What is OpenID? From OpenID.net:
OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity.

OpenID starts with the concept that anyone can identify themselves on the Internet the same way websites do-with a URI (also called a URL or web address). Since URIs are at the very core of Web architecture, they provide a solid foundation for user-centric identity.
