One week of internet TV: We’re not there yet
Last week I was home and was thinking of ways of saving some extra money around the house, as my wife and I will soon be looking at buying a new house and getting ready to plan for a little one in the next year or so, and wile I was holding my cable remote in my hand I thought about cutting the cable TV off and just keeping my internet service. At first I was like no, and then I thought about it, all I watch is ESPN, Heroes, Smallville (by the way, when is CW going to put it’s shows on itunes?), American next top model and 7th Heaven. All the shows come on regular TV with the exception of ESPN and I could watch it on the internet using TVU Player. The savings would be a cool $74.00 a month, yeah, but could I do with out my DVR features and would I really use the VCR to record shows I miss? Is it worth $1.99 on itunes for Heroes if I missed a show, or could I get used to the quality ESPN on TVU player?
Well NO! I tried TVU, and it was cool at first when I wanted to watch ESPN, and then I tried http://www.internettvlist.com/, and http://www.live-online-tv.com/ and I was so done. Besides the quality and having to sit in my home office when I wanted to watch a basketball game on ESPN, I was missing my dvr features, I wanted a way to record live TV off of the internet or have it scheduled to record shows. I know on the mac they have elegato eye TV but it’s only if you already have cable TV. Recently I saw on TechCrunch about a new TV site called: Tape it off the internet, http://tapeitofftheinternet.com/ but it’s still in beta and I haven’t received my invite yet. So my little one week internet TV and life without cable trial is over. Plus I forgot that UNC Tarheels is expected to have a great basketball season this year and by no means do I want to miss them in action especially when we kick duke’s behind at least 2 or 3 times this year.
So on Sunday night, I couldn’t take it no more, I called time Warner and had them to come out today give me my dvr back! Whew! Sometimes you don’t know how good you have it, until it’s gone. I did get a little price break when I added my cable back, but I’m going to have to keep working on my goal of making $200.00 a day online to get ready for my future.
Any ideas?
